Common questions about Automatic Swing Doors & Operators

What is an automatic swing door operator?

It is a drive fitted to a conventional hinged door so the leaf opens and closes under power. Alumina Engineering supplies the dormakaba ED 100 and ED 250 operators for single- and double-leaf doors, with automatic or Push&Go control and low energy mode as the default.

What is the difference between automatic sliding and swing doors?

A sliding door moves its leaves sideways and needs clear side panel space but no swing clearance; a swing door operator powers an existing hinged leaf and needs swing clearance but far less structural change. Swing operators suit retrofits, barrier-free doors and fire- or smoke-rated leaves; sliding doors suit continuous, high-volume pedestrian traffic.

Can swing operators be used on fire doors?

Yes — the operators are suitable for fire-proof and smoke-proof doors, emergency exits and evacuation routes, and can be activated by radar, push pad or access control.
